Maddy learned to read from her parents, they would read her book and stories, helping her along the way till she learned to read by herself. She believes people read because it makes you forget about everything happening in life and it's almost like you are the character in that book, it can make you feel emotions that you may have never felt in real love such as the love of two characters or the sadness and agony of one. Reading is like being sucked into a different world that's not your own and it's nice to be able to live different lives through the books you read. Maddy once heard a quote that said something along the lines of "A reader lives a thousand lives just in their one life time" and she whole heartily agrees with that. Maddy thinks that to be a good reader the only thing they have to do is pick a good book, she's met many people that have never liked to read until they came across a book that they absolutely loved and it changed their outlook on reading. Of course someone might not like reading if they hate the book they're reading, it all depends on if they're actually interested in what they're reading about. Reading is easy for Maddy because she has grown up reading novels and stories whenever she was bored or had nothing to do, whenever she needed a break from what was happening in her own life she would escape into the life of a character in a book and it made reading one of her favorite things to do. The hardest part of reading for Maddy is if a book is full of big words she hasn't heard before, she says that when that happens she gets very confused and can't focus on what's happening in the book because she's so worried about not understanding what those words meant. Maddy said that when choosing a book she doesn't put a lot of thought into it, she likes reading all sorts of books so as long as it grabs her attention when she reads the back cover it's a good one. Maddy said that she used to read at home almost every day but that as she has gotten older she has gotten a lot more bussy and lost the time to read, she says that she reads whenever she finds the time or if she really needs a break from something in her life. Maddy loves reading, she always has loved it and she continous to love reading.
Maddy is not a writer, she says that she never was very good at it and still feels like it's a hard thing for her to do. Maddy does believe that people learn to write from their elementary teachers and watching their parents or family members write, some people learn to write from reading too. She thinks that people write to get all their feelings out, when writing you can make up things in your head and make them a reality in the book. You can take things that you want to happen in your life or things that have happened and write them down and make a story out of them. She believes writing in journals is a very good thing, it helps people to write down whats happening in their lives or important events so that when they get older they'll be able to go back and remember better. To be able to write well she thinks that you have to be good with words and know how to make sentences flow, having a big vocabulary would also help a writer. Maddy doesn't write a lot but when she does it's usually writing her thoughts down or something she's frustrated with and needs to think a lot about. She has tried writing short stories in some of her high school classes and thought that doing that was enjoyable and interesting. Maddy decides what to write about by just brainstorming and thinking of recent events that have happened in her life or coming up with a fiction story. Constructive criticism is what helps her most as a writer because she says she can learn from her mistakes and try to do better. She doesn't write that often at home if hardly ever but when she does it's for an english project or homework in other classes. Maddy feels that her writing could improve and that it could definitely become a better writer.
