The mentor text comparison essay that I used to learn from is comparing Tomas Edison and Benjamin Franklin. This essay shows me how I am supposed to write it and how I can compare my two topics. It also shows me the transition words that I can use throughout my essay. It talks about how both Edison and Franklin were born in very different time periods but had so much alike they would have been best friends if they ever met face to face. Both men where inventors and both born in the United States, neither of them had a lot of schooling when they were younger, yet they were some of the smartest and most important men in our history. They both taught themselves how to read and created a lot of the inventions that we still are using today. They both knew a lot about electricity and loved it. Even though Franklin invented electricity there wasn’t much he could do with it in that time period, so he invented other useful things instead. Edison was all about electricity 24/7, that’s all that he wanted to invent. Everything that he invented had electric currents in them. Both of them also had different religions, Edison believed in science and he believed that everything had an explanation. Franklin was a very religious person and believed in god. Franklin also ended up on the 100 dollar bill. As for Edison he did not, but he did get a lot of money for his inventions unlike Franklin.
