The book God Grew Tired of Us is a memoir about John Bul Dau and the life that he had lived as a child in southern Sudan. John had many symbiotic relationships with everyone who lived in his village and with his many brothers and sisters and friends. Everyone he knows and loves though gets killed in a surprise attack one night, except his fathers friend Abraham. The two boys set out to find the refugee camps in a safe place called Ethiopia. Along their journey to find Ethiopia, the come across many people that they become attached to and have relationships with. Johns and Abrahams relationship would be a Mutualism relationship, they both rely on each other so heavily while they are walking the thousands of miles. They almost died many times but they had each other to keep going, to push each other forward, they are what kept each other alive. They depended on each other like crazy and I do not think they both would’ve survived without that friendship that they had and that they developed in the deserts of Africa.
John also had a Amensalism relationship with the Arabic armies that invaded his home, killed his friends and family, beat him and Abraham almost to death more then once, and that killed hundreds of young children. The armies of men were not affected by killing the thousands of Africans, and they did not care at all. Were as John and Abraham were harmed by this relationship and others were killed.
